April 28, 2009 – New York, NY – On April 28, 2009 about twenty years after the release of their critically acclaimed debut, 3 Feet High and Rising (Tommy Boy, 1989), industry veterans Trugoy* (David Jolicoeur), Posdnuos (Kelvin Mercer), and Maseo** (Vincent Mason) of the legendary hip hop trio De La Soul, released their latest album Are You In?-a part of the Nike+Original Run Series. De La Soul’s 1989 debut, 3 Feet High and Rising (Tommy Boy), went Gold later that year, and Platinum in 2000. Since 1989, De La Soul has released ten main albums (including the debut and the 2009 release), in addition to ten other compilation albums, and a number of singles. Furthermore, De La has contributed to a variety of collaborative projects, most importantly with the former Native Tongues, and more recently, with the Gorillaz on the 2005 Gold*** single, “Feel Good Inc.” Twenty years after De La Soul’s debut, the group still figures prominently on the hip hop scene in the United States and around the world. Still successful, relevant, and innovative after two consecutive decades in the music industry, De La Soul beings the 20 Years High and Rising Tour, on July 28, 2009.

Anecdote:
Phife Dawg on De La Soul
A few years ago, during an interview with former Native Tongues cohort/A Tribe Called Quest member, Phife Dawg-who had recently travelled to Europe with the De La trio-believed De La Soul (and A Tribe Called Quest) is (are) now even more popular in Europe than in the US, their musical terre de naissance. Phife reported he and the De La trio experienced difficulty walking in the streets in Europe, because the legendary figures had become even more popular overseas in recent years.
